Saints Peter and Paul

Saints Peter and Paul.
St. Peter was one of the twelve apostles, brother of the Apostle Andrew. His name was Simon Peter. In his acceptance as an apostle, he got the name Cephas in Aramaic equivalent of Peter, which means rock. Like his brother, he was a fisherman.
St. Paul, "Apostle to the Gentiles" was born into a family of Hebrew descent from the tribe of Benjamin, in Tarsus of Cilicia, probably in the early years of the Christian era, being named Saul. He was raised and educated in the traditions of the Pharisees, it seems, to Jerusalem, perfecting and education under the guidance of the famous rabbi Gamaliel, who had initiated the rich tradition of legal interpretation and Jewish folk literature.
